May 31 and June 1 - SalmonAid in Oakland

SalmonAid is a two day event celebrating wild salmon produced by what could be the largest coalition of West Coast commercial, recreational and tribal fishermen, partnering with environmental organizations and chefs. SalmonAid celebrates wild Pacific salmon as a cultural icon for the people of the western United States, an important economic resource for fishing communities, a nutritious delicacy, and a vital ecological link between our freshwater and coastal marine ecosystems.
SalmonAid, modeled loosely after Farm Aid, will take place at Oakland's Jack London Square on May 31 and June 1, 2008.

The outdoor event will feature live music acts, speakers and a chance for the public to buy salmon directly from commercial salmon fishermen who will dock their boats in the Oakland estuary at Jack London Square. SalmonAid is being held to raise awareness of the plight of west coast salmon populations as well as the many communities that rely on salmon for survival. The festival will feature booths highlighting the natural history of salmon, as well as the history, culture and traditions of salmon towns and the people connected to salmon from California to Washington.
