About the Friends of Kottinger Creek The Friends of Kottinger Creek The Friends of Kottinger Creek is a nonprofit, grassroots, citizens' committee advocating the restoration and preservation of the City of Pleasanton's creeks and their riparian habitat. We are currently focused on restoration of the portion of Kottinger Creek that flows through Kottinger Community Park. As one of 43 statewide affiliates of UCC, we promote soil-bioengineering practices, or the use of both live and dead plant materials, as the most effective way to revegetate creeks and stabilize their banks. We also support multi-objective restoration. That is, proper creek restoration should achieve habitat protection, flood control and recreational objectives. The policies of regulatory agencies such as the California Department of Fish and Game and the Regional Water Quality Control Board are consistent with our goals. We are also associated with the Alameda Creek Alliance and the Friends of the Arroyos in Livermore. History During the nearly six ensuing years, we have worked diligently, first to advocate, then to develop a restoration plan together with the City of Pleasanton Public Works and Parks and Community Services Departments and FarWest Restoration Engineering, consultants hired by the City. It is anticipated the project will go to bid in June 2006. If approved, it will be under construction during the July to October 2006 timeframe.
