The park opened in July 2004. Granada Native Gardens includes native trees such as live oak, valley oak, and sycamore and compatible native bushes and grasses. The park is divided into various gardens: chapparal, oak woodland, wildflower meadow, and riparian habitat. The garden was designed by Alrie Middlebrook (see middlebrook-gardens.com), a native plant landscape designer. Educational panels, picnic tables, benches, and paths were constructed in the park by Granada High students, FOTA volunteers, and Boy Scouts.
