February 18, 2004 Check the BART weir for fish Flows at the BART weir should be right for steelhead moving upstream within the next few days. The flow this morning peaked at 2,000 cfs - we have usually seen steelhead at around 200-400 cfs. You can check the real-time stream flow at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ca/nwis/uv/?site_no=11179000&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060
The S. F. Public Utilities Commission is initiating a Habitat Conservation Plan for the Alameda Creek watershed. The HCP will be a long-term conservation plan for land use and biological planning on SFPUC lands. The first public meeting will be Thursday, February 19, 6:30 to 9:00 pm at the Dublin Public Library, Community Room, 200 Civic Plaza, Dublin. The initial comments of the Alameda Creek Alliance can be found on our web site at http://www.alamedacreek.org/Alerts/SFPUC%20HCP.htm
The ACA will lead a hike on Saturday, February 28, to Maguire Peaks in Sunol to overlook the proposed Apperson Ridge quarry site. There is a good chance of seeing elk and eagles and an opportunity to learn about the impacts of the quarry project. We will meet at 10 am at the bottom of Welch Creek road where it intersects with Calaveras Road. Please RSVP if you will attend.
We will not be holding the Steelhead Festival this year, but will instead be doing outreach at other community events and tabling at the County Fair in Pleasanton. However, we will still hold the Spawning Run on Saturday, May 8. For information see www.alamedacreek.org/Upcoming_Events/Upcoming%20events.htm |
