Fish habitat surveys this Saturday

1) Welch Creek fish habitat survey and barrier assessment this Saturday

Join the ACA this Saturday, December 13 at 10 am, for a volunteer survey of Welch Creek, tributary to Alameda Creek in the Sunol Valley. We will survey trout habitat in the lower portion of Welch Creek and also conduct an informal fish passage barrier survey. We will meet at 10 am at the lower end of Welch Creek road where it joins Calaveras Road, in Sunol. (Directions - take the Hwy 84 exit off Hwy. 680 in Sunol. Go southeast on Calaveras Road approximately 2 miles to Welch Creek road. Turn left and park immediately in the dirt turnout on your right.) Surveys will be conducted by vehicle and on foot. Bring raingear, lunch, and waterproof boots or rubber waders.

2) Maguire Peaks hike to overlook the proposed Apperson Quarry

Join the ACA this Saturday, December 13 at 1 pm, after the fish surveys, for a hike to Maguire Peaks in the northern portion of Sunol Regional Wilderness. Maguire Peaks overlooks the site of the proposed Apperson Quarry. This is a 5 miles roundtrip hike, with strenuous uphill. Bring raingear, lunch and a camera. We will meet at 1 pm at the lower end of Welch Creek road where it joins Calaveras Road, in Sunol. (Directions - take the Hwy 84 exit off Hwy. 680 in Sunol. Go southeast on Calaveras Road approximately 2 miles to Welch Creek road. Turn left and park immediately in the dirt turnout on your right.) We will carpool to the trailhead leaving at 1:15.
