MARCH 2008 -FIRST ATTEMPTED STEELHEAD SPAWNING ABOVE FLOOD CONTROL CHANNEL IN FOUR DECADES:

Bonnie and Clyde, a male and female steelhead trout pair rescued at the BART weir Feb. 26, 2008, radio-tagged and moved into Niles Canyon. The pair was photographed exhibiting spawning behavior in Stonybrook Creek on March 2 and 3, 2008. Bonnie measures 27 inches in length and weighs 8.5 pounds; Clyde is 28 inches and 8 pounds.

This marks the first time that adult steelhead have attempted to spawn in suitable trout habitat in the Alameda Creek watershed since the early to mid 1960s. Photos by Leigh Ochikubo-Chan of EBRPD.
